Apple’s biggest announcement won’t be the iPhone 8, but HOW you use it

Today’s the big day. The very, very big day. It’s Apple’s massive, thoroughly-leaked iPhone-Apple-Watch-iOS 11-Apple TV-and-whatever-else-it-announces day.

The momentous event is especially symbolic this time because it’s being held at the new Steve Jobs Theater at the still unfinished Apple Park campus. The theater is as much an unveiling as whatever new products Apple’s going to announce.

But while everyone will be fixated on the new …

Google appeals EU’s €2.4B fine

Google filed an appeal against the European Commission’s decision to fine it a record €2.4 billion earlier this year. The Alphabet affiliate is positive that the amount might change for good after Intel managed to overturn an 8-year-old decision for anti-competitive behavior.

The European Commission ordered Google on June 27 to stop tampering with results on Google Shopping and gave the company two months to comply with the decision. With the September 28 date closing, Google had not asked for an interim order of the suspension, according to a court spokeswoman.

Qualcomm’s takes a subtle shot at Apple, gets its facts wrong

Before Apple releases its new iPhone generation later today, Qualcomm wants you to know all about a few notable world firsts on Android — features or technologies that made their debut on Android smartphones with the help of Qualcomm.

The company took what looks like a subtle shot at Apple by posting a list of these features on its website, which includes things like fast charging, dual-camera technology, augmented reality, OLED and 4K displays, and even the bezel-less design, which we’ll likely see on one of the upcoming iPhones. You can check out all the features below.

Qualcomm is definitely correct, as certain Android smartphones have introduced new technologies with its help in the past and have later been used on iPhones. However, the funny thing about it is that Qualcomm isn’t the best at remembering on which devices these technologies actually made their debut.

As 9to5Google reports, the list shows that the first smartphone with an OLED display was the LG G Flex, when in fact it was actually the original Galaxy S that was released way back in 2010. Qualcomm also seems to think that the HTC U11, Xiaomi Mi 6, and the LG V30 (that hasn’t even been released yet) introduced Bluetooth 5 to the market. This is, of course, incorrect, as the first devices with this tech were actually the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.

The last mistake Qualcomm made is also the funniest one. According to the company, the first smartphone with a dual-camera setup was the HTC One M7, which, as you probably know, only has one camera on the back.

However, it is worth mentioning that Qualcomm did realize it made a few mistakes and has since updated the list on its website in order to look more knowledgeable — too late for that.

Deal: The Moto E4 is just $40 (44% off) on Amazon, but it’s locked to Verizon

The Moto E4 was launched at Verizon back in June as the carrier’s cheapest Android smartphone. At just $70, Motorola’s budget-friendly handset was an absolute steal for customers looking for their first smartphone.

Fast forward three months and the Moto E4’s price has dropped by almost 50%. If you don’t mind being tied to a carrier like Verizon, the Moto E4 is a great phone due to price-specs ratio.

For a limited time, customers can buy the Verizon-branded Moto E4 for just $40 on Amazon. The bad news is the retailer will now ship the phone within 1 to 4 weeks, probably due to high … – Source

Galaxy Note 8 makes its debut in India for ₹67,900

The Galaxy Note 8 will go on sale later this month.

Just a few short weeks after its global unveil, Samsung is launching the Galaxy Note 8 in India. The Galaxy S8 series was very well-received in the country, and there’s a healthy interest in the Galaxy Note line as well, which Samsung is eager to cater to.

As a reminder, the Galaxy Note 8 shares a similar design aesthetic as the Galaxy S8, with the phone sporting a slightly larger 6.3-inch Infinity Display with a resolution of 2960 x 1440. Samsung makes the best AMOLED panels, and the display on the Note 8 is incredible.

The Note 8 is powered by the Exynos 8895 in India, and comes with 6GB of RAM, 64GB storage, microSD slot, IP68 dust and water resistance, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C 3.1, iris scanner, and a 3300mAh battery with fast charging and wireless charging.

A new feature to make its way to the Note 8 is dual cameras at the back. The phone has two 12MP cameras — a primary f/1.7 sensor that acts as a wide-angle lens augmented by an f/2.4 telephoto lens that offers 2x optical zoom. Both sensors have OIS, and there’s a front 8MP camera.

The Note 8 also has a dedicated button to invoke Bixby, and Samsung says Bixby Voice will be rolling out in India in a few weeks.

The Note 8 is retailing at ₹67,900 ($1,060), or ₹4,000 more than the retail cost of the Galaxy S8+. But you do get the S Pen and a larger screen, along with the new imaging sensors. The phone will be available for sale starting September 21, with pre-orders kicking off later today on Amazon India.

As always, those pre-ordering or purchasing the device on launch day will be eligible to receive freebies, including a one-time screen fix along with a wireless charger. HDFC customers will also pick up a ₹4,000 cash back.

Leak reveals Amazon’s new 4K Fire TV dongle and set-top box with Alexa

AFTVnews

Amazon’s quest to take over the living room is coming along nicely. Right now, the retailer offers both the Fire Stick and Fire TV, but it looks like it’ll get a few new siblings with some newly leaked devices. According to AFTVnews, we’ll see two new streaming devices soon — a mid-tier Fire TV device and a top-tier set-top box.

The new mid-tier device will be an HDMI dongle that looks a lot like the Chromecast. It’ll plug directly into the HDMI port of your TV and will come with support for 4K HDR video at 60 FPS. Under the hood, the device will sport a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, Mali 450 GPU, 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage like other Fire TV devices. The quad-core processor and upgraded GPU will make it a more powerful device than the current second-gen Fire Stick. Instead of replacing the second-gen Fire Stick however, the new dongle looks to live alongside it and offer customers a choice between a more budget-friendly option that can stream at 1080p and a more powerful device that can support 4K and HDR.

The second device is a cube-shaped set-top box that integrates far-field microphones and an IR transmitter. This device will also output 4K HDR at 60 FPS and will also include Alexa integration and the ability to control other devices in your home. On top of the box, sit volume and mute buttons as well as an action button to trigger the assistant. The familiar blue LED light bar will also be present. Using the microphones built into the cube or the voice-enabled remote, you’ll be able to trigger Alexa whenever you want and get a response either through your television speakers or the cube’s built-in speakers.

The power of the new set-top box could be in its ability to control other devices around it. It’ll have the ability to turn on any HDMI-CEC-enabled television it’s connected to. Plus, with the inclusion of an IR transmitter, it’ll also be able to control devices like televisions, A/V equipment, air conditioners, and more. This is a clear decision to take the fight to Google after the release of the Google Home.

Prices have yet to be revealed, though we expect to see the dongle announced this month and released the next. Details are less clear for the top-tier cube, but we think it’s safe to say that it will see the light of day before the holiday season.
