Game of Thrones will spawn its own finale multiverse to avoid spoilers

HBO isn’t leaving anything to chance when it comes to spoiler potential for its climactic Game of Thrones finale: The network will be shooting multiple endings for Season 8, the show’s next and final season (via Mashable).
The idea is simple – if no one, including the cast and crew, know which ending is the ‘real’ one, then it should make it very difficult to spoil. Read More

iOS 11 on the iPhone X removes the Reachability option for one-handed use

When it comes to big screens, Apple has mostly played it conservatively: even its largest screen ever isn’t nearly as big as, say, the Galaxy Note 8. But even before this, iOS had possibly the best solution to the problem of being unable to reach the very top of the screen when using your device with one hand: Reachability. Just tap (not press) the home button twice, and the entire screen will shift down by half the screen height until you tap on something.
But wait, you might be thinking, what about the new iPhone X which doesn’t have a home button? Well … – Source

Google Tez is a new payment service reportedly coming to India next week

In the latest sign that Google takes India extremely seriously, the company could launch a new payment service in the country as soon as next week.

Indian news website The Ken, via TechCrunch, reports that the new payment service will be called Google Tez, which means “fast” in Hindi. The service will reportedly be separate from Android Pay, which is not available in India currently. The service could be introduced next Monday, claims The Ken.

Google Tez will integrate with Unified Payments Interface (UPI), the government-owned platform for mobile transactions, and other popular mobile wallet services like Paytm and MobiKwik.

Read: 8 things you didn’t know you could do with mobile wallets in India

Adoption of mobile payment services has been growing steadily in India, especially after a demonetization drive that removed large quantity of bills from circulation, creating a cash crunch in the process. With millions of new users coming online every year and fast adoption of mobile technology, the market for digital payments is estimated to reach $500 billion per year by 2020.

Back in July, the Indian press reported that Google was working with local regulators to obtain approvals for a payment service. Still, the launch of a separate service that is customized for India comes as a surprise.

The Ken spotted documents that show that Google applied for a trade mark for “Tez”. Interestingly, the company also sought to secure this brand in Indonesia and the Philippines. It’s unclear why Google would want to launch another payment service besides Android Pay, but the company is no stranger of duplicate and overlapping projects.

Read: Android Pay vs Apple Pay vs Samsung Pay Overview

Google has strong competition in India – Samsung brought Pay to the market in March, the same month Truecaller added mobile payment functionality to its app. Perhaps more worrying for Google, Facebook-owned WhatsApp is not far behind – the messaging juggernaut is said to be close to adding a payment feature to its wildly popular service.

Mind the notch! Pros and cons of the iPhone X interface vs iPhone 8 (apps, video, browsing)

Apple employed some clever solutions for the interface navigation on its first “bezel-less” handset, the iPhone X. Instead of hitting a home key, you simply swipe from the bottom to get to base, or hold the touch to access your recent apps.
Alternatively, you can swipe left and right at the bottom where the home indicator is to go back and forth between apps, neat. Pulling down on the left or right of the “notch” will get you the control and notification centers, while holding the lock key will start Siri.

Nokia 2 will come with a huge 4,000mAh battery

Hey, remember when Nokia 2 passed through the FCC? Buried under a mountain of wireless connectivity tests was the battery capacity – a whopping 4,000mAh! That’s a huge jump over the 5, 6 and 8 models, all three of which have around 3,000mAh.

The Snapdragon 210 chipset doesn’t use a lot of power – not because it’s very efficient (it’s a 28nm chip), it’s just not very powerful. Couple that with the rumored 4.7-5″ screen of modest 720p resolution, the battery life should be stellar. Certainly better than HMD’s current entry level phone – the Nokia 3 and its 2,630mAh battery.

PSA: iOS now tells you when your iPhone’s battery needs replacement

When Apple released iOS 10 last year, some iPhone 6s and 6s Plus units suddenly started showing some major battery issues. The percentage bar was super-confused and phones started shutting off when the display would say they still have 35%-ish charge left.

Apple announced a free battery replacement program for a number of affected devices and that little (big) issue seems to have been mostly rectified since. However, it did raise awareness and got users asking themselves “How long will the battery in my iPhone remain healthy for?”.

Well, here’s a fun little fact — Apple silently added … – Source

Results: despite its price, the iPhone X is grabbing hearts

So, Apple announced three new phones — as expected —, and two of them were reiterations of the 4-year-old design — as expected —, while the third one was the radical all-screen iPhone X… as expected. Man, these leaks really kill the excitement of such events, don’t they?
In any case, a lot of the rumors about the iPhone X turned out to be untrue. It doesn’t have a Touch ID sensor embedded in the glass, it doesn’t have a “control strip” at the bottom, it doesn’t shoot lasers, and can’t make you a latte. Some would say it’s basically an animoji machine with a large display.

Girl meets mer-boy in the new ‘The Shape of Water’ trailer

It’s a tale as old as time: Girl meets mer-boy, girl falls in love with mer-boy, girl has to save mer-boy from a sadistic Michael Shannon.

Frances McDormand delivers a ‘Fargo’-level performance in ‘Three Billboards’

And why were viewers were moved to show rare mid-showing affection? If one had to guess, it was in part the power of McDormand’s perfectly composed delivery, a masterful handling of tone and ferocity, and in part the nature of the monologue from writer-director Martin McDonagh.
