Vivo V7 launched with 24 MP camera and bezel-less display

Vivo has announced the Vivo V7 in China. This is virtually the same device as the recently launched Vivo V7 Plus, with only a couple of features separating the V7 from its larger sibling. However, it’s coming with a smaller price tag.

The V7 houses a 5.7-inch HD+ (1440 x 720 pixels) IPS LCD display with 18:9 format and 83.6% display-to-body ratio. This arrives in addition to a 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 450 chip — a 14 nm mobile platform new in 2017 — 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage space (with microSD card support).

On the rear, you’ll find a 16 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash, while at the front comes a 24 MP camera. This features VivoFace Access technology (also seen on V7 Plus) for unlocking the device, as well as Smart Beauty 7.0, which “brightens up selfies and creates a more even complexion,” according to Vivo.

The V7 is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery, has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and runs Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box with Vivo’s Funtouch 3.2 UI on top.

Prince William has unveiled a “national action plan” to tackle cyberbullying in a powerfully moving video. In the video, Prince William described online anonymity as “really, really dangerous” after talking to two campaigners whose lives have been impacted by online bullying.

The Duke of Cambridge spoke to Lucy Alexander, whose son Felix died by suicide after experiencing cyberbullying, and Chloe Hine, a suicide attempt survivor who endured cyberbullying—both of whom have helped the prince develop the action plan.

“The human tragedy of what we’re talking about here isn’t just about companies,” said the prince. “It’s actually real lives that get affected.” …

Twitter’s tweetstorm feature starts showing up in the Android app

When 280 characters aren’t enough…

Back in September, a developer discovered a hidden feature in Android’s Twitter app that would allow you to type out several tweets and queue them to send one by one, making it easier for anyone to launch a “tweetstorm” without having to type and send each tweet individually. Back then, the feature wasn’t activated yet, but it now appears to be going live for some users.

Google Maps is about to get a lot more colorful

The design of Google Maps doesn’t get updated very often, so when it does, it’s kind of a big deal. The latest tweaks are all about adding a bit more color to the interface and making things a little easier to pick out as a consequence. What you see will also be more relevant to the mode of transport you’re using, too.

It makes sense for the items on the map to be more contextual.

Jordan Peele jokes about ‘Get Out’ being categorized as a comedy

Get Out being submitted as a comedy for the Golden Globe Awards has raised a few eyebrows, and here to joke about it is Jordan Peele.

SEE ALSO: Jordan Peele snuck into a class about his own movie and we’re wildly jealous

Peele was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night, and Colbert asked him about his debut film Get Out’s categorisation. Peele was quick with his answer: “I submitted it as a documentary.”

“The thing that resonated to people was truth,” said Peele, “for me it’s more of a historical biopic.”

So the submission of Get Out as a comedy remains a mystery, and Peele remains a genre-defying genius. …

Another day, another Google Pixel 2 problem: Many users can’t unlock the bootloaders

[你好] Duolingo adds Chinese (Mandarin) to its list of languages

More than one billion people already speak Chinese, and that’s sure to continue rising. It’s been one of the most requested languages over at Duolingo, which is ready to launch Mandarin Chinese in its mobile apps and on the web.

It’s a notoriously difficult language for native English speakers to learn, so a lot of thought has gone into how to make the basics easier to pick up for Duolingo users.

Creative dude creates action movie proposal video, screens it during the trailers at the cinema

Watching the trailers is one of the best things about going to the cinema. And, one cinema-goer at a cinema in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, got even more of a treat than she bargained for.

Louise Treen was at her local Vue cinema getting ready to watch Paddington 2 when a trailer her boyfriend Damian Paul made began screening during the trailers.

“Louise Victoria Treen, will you marry me?” the video asked.

Seemingly, Paul convinced cinema staff to air his homemade trailer prior to the screening of the film. …

Duolingo finally adds Mandarin to its list of supported languages

Duolingo is one of the most popular language learning apps in the world, providing free access to tons of language courses with an engaging “gamified” experience. It’s already brilliant, featuring on our best language apps list, but it had until now been lacking the world’s most prevalent language: Mandarin.

This was added to the Duolingo app yesterday, following the introduction of a couple of other Asian languages earlier this year (Duolingo received support for Japanese in May and Korean in September). Those who’ve used Duolingo previously should be right at home with the format of the new course; however, because Mandarin uses a logographic writing system, it will be a greater challenge to pick up at first (by comparison to languages which make use of the English alphabet).

Logograms represent words or ideas rather than sounds, so, whereas you could see the French word “bonjour” and have an idea of how to pronounce it English, you can’t see 你好 in Mandarin and know you’re supposed to say “ni hao.”

This is a natural part of what makes going from English to Mandarin hard (and that’s not to mention difficulties presented by the tone-based nature of Mandarin when it’s spoken) and it’s a difficult thing for language apps to work around. Nevertheless, if you’re interested in learning Mandarin on Duolingo, don’t expect it to progress at the same pace as other languages you might have tried learning with the app.

Colin Farrell’s childhood crush story is hilariously strange

Many young boys and girls have posters of a celebrity crush up on their bedroom walls.
