Smart tables and smart walls seem like things of the future, but they’re actually just weeks around the corner. The product is called Knocki, and it turns essentially any surface into a smart surface.
The Knocki is slim little discus that attaches neatly to any wall, door, table, cabnet… you name it. Knock on that surface in a pattern, and the Knocki executes whatever commands you’ve programmed for it.
Think of it as a 21st century version of those “clap on, clap off” lights. Except it controls way more than lights.
This is frankly one of the most intuitive smarthome products we’ve seen. Stick one under your bedside table, three knocks starts the coffeemaker before you get out of bed. Stick one on your front door. Someone knocks while you’re out in the backyard, you get a notification sent to your phone.
Knocki is immediately accessible by way of its simplicity. -WIRED
Knocki connects to your wifi network and works out of the box with smarthome setups like Philips Hue, Nest, LIFX, and others, but its most potent sync up is with IFTTT. So basically, the only limit to Knocki’s functionality is your imagination. Each unit can support up to 10 unique ‘gestures’ or knock patterns.
The Knocki hasn’t hit the market yet, but it’s about to. The IndieGoGo campaign run by Arrow Electronics raised $1,226,485, which was $3270% of their target goal. In fact, they reached their goal after just an hour. However, even though the funding goals have been reached, they’re still offering discounts to early bird adopters.
The Knocki will retail at $128 upon release, but if you’re eager to get in on the action, you can get as much as 40% off depending on how many you order. These “early bird” options are expected to ship this month, so you’ll have to act soon if you want to snag them.
